New Moon

Also known as: Dark Moon (in some traditions)

The New Moon occurs when the Moon is positioned between the Earth and the Sun, rendering its illuminated side invisible from Earth. It marks the beginning of a new lunar cycle.

The New Moon is absence. A sky emptied of silver. Astronomically, it is alignment — the Moon’s darkened face turned toward us. Symbolically, it has long been associated with beginnings, concealment, and inward focus.

Below you will find articles exploring lunar mechanics, calendrical systems, ritual uses of the dark phase, and cultural interpretations of lunar renewal. This is the unseen seed — the pause before growth.
